We just got back from a really neat hike through the forest to see some eels (we saw a huge one :) and then went to a waterfall and played a bit and then tromped back through the forest - with JohnMark, David, and Sierra showing us everything interesting along the way. Hmmm, let me see... what have we been doing that last three days? Well, on Tuesday we hopped in the truck for the 2 hr bumpy ride to Port Resolution to meet there for the day with the Nehrbass family and Nika to celebrate Sierra's 10th birthday! David and I had a lot fun in the truck bed with the wind whipping past us and trying to grab leaves as they flew by. When we first got to Port Resolution a tour guide led us to look at a hot springs where steam was coming through the ground. And then she used the warm colorful clay to put face-paint on us! We ate some terrific burritoes that Eric made for us and played in the water some. Ken took me out for a spin on his sailboat - kinda fun to learn how it works (pretty tricky!). Erik and I went for a quick mile run or so down the beach and back (it's a lot of fun to go running with him and we've had a few jogs together around the trails here). All too soon it was time to leave and I'm gonna miss the Nehrbasses but it was great to have another chance to hang out with them. Nika came back with us to also be here with the Stapletons for this last week on Tanna. Erik gave us a really neat hour of teaching about different translation stuff yesterday and I'm looking forward to more of his teaching Nika and I. Pray that the Lord would bless our time of learning from Erik and that we would continually be able to encourage each other this week.
The construction has been moving along great! Joseph, the carpenter, has been in charge of all the work since the block laying is now finished and he has been doing a great job. He didn't need much help on Monday since he brought a helper but yesterday I got to help a lot with putting up the walls so that was fun. To the right is a pic of what we did yesterday (Wednesday). It's exciting to learn about building walls and measuring wood, etc. Oh, and all the beams have been cut by another man from a few trees in the forest here - it's really neat to see how he does it. No need to get wood from far away if you can cut it here! I'm excited to learn a bit more about building this next week!
I have a praise related to running! The trails and roads around here are so beautiful for running and exploring on. It's hard to motivate myself to run but it's so worth it because -- in addition to getting in the required training I need for college running -- the Lord has been continually meeting me on the runs and I love every morning cause of it!
