Rest

So I don't have anything amazing to talk about as far as this weekend was concerned but was very thankful for a little bit of a slowdown of activities these last two days (and especially today). On Saturday, I did a bit of painting in the house while Erik went to get more cement mix from town (Lenakel which is a 2 hr drive there). But before that JohnMark, David, and Maxwell took me out to get a bunch of passion fruits! But we also brought two slingshots to teach me how to shoot birds. And these weren't cheesy slingshots - they were like professional with the arm brace and all. It seems they've taken quite an interest in slingshots (they even helped me make my own this afternoon!). So while walking from one passion fruit vine to the next we shot at (and missed) at a ton of birds! But finally a little before we reached the house again, Maxwell shot one down! I was pretty impressed to say the least. Who knows, maybe I'll get extra lucky and get one before the trip is over (don't worry, there are boatloads of birds here!) And then in the afternoon after painting we finished up laying all the bricks (just two layers). Joseph the carpenter will be working with me tomorrow (Monday) as we pour cement on top of the bricks to give a smooth surface for the woodwork and then plaster the sides with cement. Today (Sunday) we went to church down the hill by the beach. Once again it was neat to watch the Ni-Vanuatu worship our Lord in a language unknown to me. Most of it sounded like gibberish except for when they read portions from the Bible in Bislama which has portions of it that are recognizable. And they asked me to stand at the door afterwards and shake everyone's hand! This afternoon we played kickball with the village kids and taught them how to play 4-square which was fun. Then JohnMark and I went exploring (and shooting) for a bit before supper. And now I'm planning to get to bed a wee bit early and I'm excited to see what tomorrow holds because we know that His mercies are new every morning!
22Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
24 I say to myself, "The LORD is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him."
25 The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him,
to the one who seeks him;
26 it is good to wait quietly
for the salvation of the LORD.
